LG.Philips Displays’s breakthrough products sizzle in major Asian event
LG.Philips Displays made waves at the Asia Display and the 4th International Meeting on Information Display (IMID) 2004 held on August 24-26 in Daegu, Korea, where it showcased its latest cathode ray tube (CRT) products, the SuperSlim color picture tube series.
The SuperSlim, which embodies the latest breakthrough in CRT technology, left a deeply positive impression among participants and visitors at the IMID 2004, the largest and most prestigious conference and exhibition of Asia’s top display makers in Korea.
LG.Philips Displays President and CEO JI Son, who visited the LG.Philips Displays booth together with other top company officials, was very pleased to see the enthusiastic response to the LG.Philips Displays products led by the prototype of 32” SuperSlim color picture tube (CPT). Also lending support were Chief Sales Officer Wiebo Vaartjes and other members of the LG.Philips Displays management team including Operations 3 Director KH Yoon and D&E Manager Wim Brouwer.
Executives and representatives from TV set makers, including LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics, Sony and Hitachi, visited the LG.Philips Displays booth, and expressed keen interest in the SuperSlim. The enthusiasm shown by prospective customers to the SuperSlim products was shared by media representatives and the general public, who made the LG.Philips Displays booth one of the stars of the entire exhibition.
SuperSlim beats other CPTs in the market
The SuperSlim tube measures only 35 cm from front to back, thus achieving up to 30 percent depth reduction compared to other CRT products in the market.
A 32” wide screen TV set using LG.Philips Displays’ SuperSlim CPT would measure 38 cm, compared to current TV depths averaging at 54 cm. This gives the CRT TV set an excellent flat and stylish design, comparable with plasma or LCD TVs.
For set makers, the use of the SuperSlim tubes will give them considerable savings by reducing glass and weight, packaging materials and transport costs.
Moreover, consumers are now looking for widescreen TV sets that are more stylish and take up less space in their living rooms than existing CRT-based TV sets, without having to pay the high price tags of plasma or LCD TVs.
LG.Philips Displays readies 32”WSRF mass production
LG.Philips Displays recently announced that the mass production of the 32” WideScreen Real Flat SuperSlim tubes is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2005. The CPT facility in Gumi, Korea has been chosen as the manufacturer of this revolutionary tube.
This will expand the company’s Cybertube+ SuperSlim product range, following the production and market introduction of its 21” Real Flat SuperSlim in December last year. The 21”RF tubes are currently being produced in Durham, United Kingdom. The plant in Nanjing, China will also start rolling out the product.
Since the SuperSlim market launch in August 2003 during the IFA event in Berlin, Germany, several leading set makers have started selling TV sets using the 21” Real Flat SuperSlim tube.
A number of customers have also committed to co-design programs to produce CRT TV sets that are a little deeper than plasma or LCD TVs using the 32”WSRF SuperSlim.
LG.Philips Displays is now planning to expand the SuperSlim product range to include the 29” Real Flat and 28” WSRF SuperSlim displays. |
